Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen had to be rushed to hospital after a crash during the 2021 British Grand Prix. The British GP race is the 10th series of the 2021 F1 World Championship held at Silverstone Circuit on Mingu (7/18/2021) wib. Max Verstappen fared very unlucky because of the accident he suffered on the first lap. Starting the race from pole position, Verstappen immediately came under pressure from Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) who was stalking in second place. Verstappen and Hamilton started the 2021 British Grand Prix very aggressively and pressed each other around each corner.
The intense rivalry between Verstappen and Hamilton eventually reached the top at Turn 9 of the Silverstone Circuit or Copse Corner. Verstappen and Hamilton were facing a wheel to wheel situation or adjacent car tyres. Verstappen eventually bounced off the track after the right rear tyre of his car collided with the wing and left front tyre of Lewis Hamilton's car. In the replay, Lewis Hamilton was seen attempting to overtake Verstappen from the inside. However, Verstappen looked unwilling to lose and continued to drive his car.
Accidents are ultimately inevitable. Verstappen, who had lost control of his car, immediately hit the track's tyre fence after colliding with Hamilton. Before crashing into the barrier wall, Verstappen's left rear tyre was already visibly detached. Red Bull boss Christian Horner then revealed that the Dutch rider crashed into the track barrier with the power of 51G or 51 times the force of earth's gravity. On the other hand, the front wing of Lewis Hamilton's car was immediately damaged.
Moments after the crash, Verstappen managed to stand out of his mangled car. Verstappen appeared to have no injuries when walking into the ambulance and he briefly waved to the spectators in the stands but he looked very shocked. After getting out of his car, Verstappen was immediately taken to Silverstone Circuit Medical Centre.
After being under the supervision of a local doctor, Verstappen was rushed to a local hospital for further examination. "After being examined by Silverstone Circuit Medical Centre doctors, Max Verstappen has been taken to a local hospital for further examination," red bull Racing's official statement read.
"The latest news regarding Max Verstappen's condition will be announced shortly," reads red bull Racing's official statement. As a result of the incident at Turn 9, Lewis Hamilton had to receive a 10-second penalty. The FIA found Lewis Hamilton entirely guilty of not avoiding contact with Verstappen as the two faced a wheel-to-wheel situation at Turn 9. "Car number 44 (Hamilton) is not at the end of Turn 9. The room (for overtaking) was then available on the inside of Turn 9," reads the FIA's official statement. "When car number 33 (Verstappen) was about to turn to Turn 9, car number 44 did not avoid contact. Finally, the left front of car number 44 touches the right side of car number 33," reads the FIA's official statement. "Car number 44 in this case was found guilty," reads the FIA's official statement.
Despite being penalised for a 10-second penalty, Hamilton continued to impress and won the race. The key moment of Hamilton's victory this time was when he overtook Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc on lap 50. Hamilton won the 2021 British Grand Prix despite only leading for two laps throughout the 52-lap race. It was Hamilton's 8th win at Silverstone Circuit in his F1 racing career.
In all, Hamilton has collected 99 wins since debuting as an F1 driver in 2007. Victory at Silverstone Circuit also saw Hamilton cut the gap to Verstappen in the 2021 F1 drivers' standings. Hamilton currently ranks second in the 2021 F1 drivers' standings with a collection of 177 points.
Before the 2021 British Grand Prix, Hamilton was 33 points behind Verstappen at the top of the standings. An additional 25 points from the 2021 British Grand Prix saw Hamilton cut verstappen's lead to just eight points. In relation to the incident with Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton felt he was not entirely guilty.
"I always measure everything I will take on the track especially when fighting Verstappen," Hamilton was quoted as saying from the Motorsport website. "You all know MaX Verstappen is very aggressive," Hamilton said. "With regards to the incident, I was completely on Verstappen's side and he didn't give me space," Hamilton added. "It's not one's fault," Hamilton said.
