Johnny Ventura Dies at 81


 
Dominican Republic musician Johnny Ventura has died at the age of 81. The news was confirmed by his son, Jandy Ventura. Quoted from CNN, the musician died after suffering a heart attack.

"We tell you my father has passed away. The Ventura family is proud of all the traces and legacies my father has left. We're always proud of whatever he does. The Dominican Republic and the world lost great musicians," Jandy said at a news conference after johnny ventura's death.

Quoted from NBC, the death of Johnny Ventura brought a profound loss to the Dominican Republic. The country's government also gave an official statement on the news of the grief.

"The Ministry of Culture is deeply saddened by the passing of the great Dominican musician Johnny Ventura. We also feel the pain that floods the family in these difficult times. His works will always be forever in Dominican song and culture," he wrote.

Not only that, the dominican republic's president's wife, Raquel Arbaje, also posted her condolences in a tweet on Twitter.

"Today is a sad day for (the music world) and for the Dominican Republic. Johnny Ventura, El Caballo Major, has left us physically, but the legacy of his work will always be with us," he tweeted.


"My hugs are in solidarity for my loved ones," he continued.

Johnny Ventura is a musician who has started his career since the 1960s. Early in his career, he joined a Latin music orchestra.

However, Johnny Ventura was widely known after creating a combination of salsa and an orchestra called merengue. The combination of salsa and merengue was referred to as the Combo show which made him one of the most famous artists in Dominica.

He recorded dozens of albums during his 60-year career in the music industry. He also won six Latin Grammys, including a special Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

During his lifetime, Johnny Ventura produced a number of legendary songs, including Patacon Pisao, Pitaste, El Elevador, and Merenguero Hasta la Tambora. He was also nicknamed El Caballo Major.
